Glorianne's Story
Life
I was born in Brookyn,N.Y. I went to St. Augustine Elementary School. My grade 1 teacher was Sister Charles Veronica and grade 2 teacher was Mrs. Kelly. I lived on 4th and Warren. My friends were Roseann Lopinto (Boopie) and Kathleen Quimby. Then at age 11 or 12 my family and I moved to Canada on a small Reserve called Kahnawake. I went to Resurrection school for grades 4 through 7 then 8 & 9 at Bishop Whelan High School in Lachine, And then went to to Howard S. Billings in Chateauguay and there I finished my high school, grades 10 & 11. Worked for a few years then got married on 1972, had 3 kids, 2 boys now 33 & 30 and 1 girl 26. I divorced him in 1994 (whew). I bought a home. I went back to school for teaching at Vanier College in Quebec. I got my teaching certificate in 1998 and teach right here on the Mohawak reserve called Kahnawake. I have one grandchild, a little girl who is 3 years old. I also have a 5 year old Chihuahua named Peanut. For the first time in my life, I bought a brand new car, a Crown Vic.
School

e and then there were the people who could't be bothered with us. but that didn't stop us from having fun. Grade eight, my first year there, I had a nun,Sister Gloria, she was very timid, I don't know how she could teach a bunch of roudy kids..this one day, this girl, I will not name, hauled off and slapped the nun across the face. We were all shocked by what she did. We were sad when we had to go to school in Chateauguay. I only attended B.W.H.S. for grades 8&9. We wanted to stay and finish our high school there but they wouldn't allow us. So, I went to Howard S. Billings High School for grades 10 and 11.
College
Nothing exciting here. Attended classes delivered
to the reserve by Vanier college. The classes were held at night 3 times a week and all day on Fridays. The course was for 3 years. We started out with 23 students and by the end of the course only 9 made it, and I was one of them.
Workplace
I flipped burgers and made fries at a deli. Worked in a ritzy golf club (Kanawaki) in the ladies locker room for 19 years. Now, I'm working at Step-ByStep Child and Family Center in Kahnawake. I am a teacher.
